Azaad (2025)

“Azad” (2025) is a period drama set in 1920s India, directed by Abhishek Kapoor. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Diana Penty, Mohit Malik and Piyush Mishra, along with Aman Devgn (Ajay Devgn’s nephew) and Rasha Thadani (Raveena Tandon’s daughter) in lead roles.

The story revolves around a young stable boy named Govind (played by Aman Devgn) who forms a deep bond with a spirited horse named Azaad. As their lives intertwine against the backdrop of rebellion and tyranny, Govind’s quest to ride the majestic horse becomes a journey of courage that makes him aware of his power amid the country’s fight for freedom.

The cast includes strong performances, especially Aman Devgn and Rasha Thadani in their debut roles, and Ajay Devgn’s intense portrayal of Vikram Singh. The bond between Govind and Azaad is beautifully depicted, and the film captures the essence of the Indian freedom struggle during the 1920s.

The drawbacks include a predictable plot that lacks depth in character development, an underdeveloped romantic sub-plot, and a slow pace, especially in the first half.

Overall, “Azaad” is an honest attempt at telling a heartwarming story but is weak in execution. Though it has some moments, especially with the bond between the boy and the horse, it could have been more engaging with a stronger screenplay and better-developed characters.
